Dr. Ray Paul

As a consultant psychiatrist based in Belfast, Ireland, Dr. Ray Paul works primarily with adult and older clients. He also takes a special interest in liaison psychiatry, helping those who need both medical and psychological treatment simultaneously.
As a medico-legal expert, Ray also collaborates with multiple clinics and hospitals on court cases, including the Dochas Centre, Musgrave House, and Newry Clinic. Particularly, he is experienced in work-related accidents, road collisions, and other personal injuries.

Ray specialises in private outpatient services for adults and older adults, concentrating on addiction co-morbidity and other mental issues.
Ray started his career as a Consultant Psychiatrist at the South Eastern HSC Trust before becoming a psychiatric medico-legal expert while working at Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan.
Today, he is acting as the Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, while continuing his medico-legal consultancy services.
Ray received two Bachelor Degrees, one in Medicine and one in Surgery, at Queen’s University of Belfast. He also studied Psychiatry at the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Later, in 2007, he acquired a degree in Mental Health Law at Northumbria University in Newcastle.
Ray has published and collaborated on several research papers. Some of his most well-known works include a study on lithium usage and renal function in General Hospital Psychiatry journal, a report on co-morbidity between schizoaffective disorder and Geschwind Syndrome in Case Reports in Psychiatry journal, and a piece on folic acid and its relationship to depression in Human Psychopharmacology Clinical and Experimental journal.
